The Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy confirmed that Morocco now boasts 1299 new accredited tour guides in Morocco, fully prepared to showcase their competence as ambassadors for the Kingdom’s destination.
This achievement is the result of an extensive process to legalize the status of tour guides, which was initiated last April following the royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This endeavour aims to create employment opportunities for young people and promote inclusion in the structured sector for those with acquired experience in the unstructured sector, empowering them to capitalize on their expertise through a significant process of regularization for those interested in pursuing a career in tourist guidance through a professional examination.
4664 accredited tour guides in Morocco
Thanks to this process, Morocco now possesses 1299 new tour guides, divided into two categories: 459 guides for natural spaces and 840 guides for cities and tourist circuits. Consequently, these guides will supplement the total number of official tour guides in Morocco, raising the count to 4664 tour guides.
The Ministry affirmed that this long-awaited initiative confirms a crucial milestone for the tourist guidance sector in our country, providing an opportunity for those possessing the necessary qualifications to pursue the profession of a tour guide in Morocco.
The Minister of Tourism, Fatima-Zahra Ammor, stated that the tourist experience holds a fundamental position on our roadmap, especially as we highly rely on the role of guides in creating a unique experience.
Through this initiative, our country aims to offer local and international tourists rich and safe travel experiences, expressing gratitude to all the dynamic forces that contributed to this significant endeavour through their dedication and professionalism.
This decentralized process, which lasted for four months from April to July 2023, witnessed joint efforts from all regions of the kingdom, involving the Ministry of Tourism, as well as the Ministry of the Interior. The organization of professional examinations, overseen by the governors and local authorities of the regions and provinces or their representatives, included physical and oral tests carefully prepared by specialized committees comprising local authorities, regional associations of tour guides in Morocco, and regional and provincial tourism delegations.
This participatory approach led to the successful regularization of this status, opening the way for better structuring of the profession of tourist guides and improving the quality of related services. The results of this examination will be available on the Ministry’s website starting from August 2, 2023: https://mtaess.gov.ma/fr/.
